Creating Your Personal Web Page

Set Up Your Account
University Telcom provides space for our users to place their
personal home page online. Users must call the UNIVERSITY
TELCOM Internet Office at 474-3300 (Grayson) or 325-1490
(Ashland) to enable this feature. After we have enabled this
feature for the user account, follow the general guidelines listed
below.

Create Your Page
You may wish to purchase an HTML (Hyper Text Markup
Language) editor to assist you with the creation of your home
page documents. There are assorted software packages
available from your local software vendor that may meet
your user level.

Publish Your Web Page
It is necessary for you to transfer the files you have created for
your home page from your computer to our server. To
accomplish this you must use an "FTP" (File Transfer
Protocol) application.
Some HTML editors include FTP software. You need to refer to
your HTML or FTP Software user's guide on how to use this feature.

Your FTP software will require you to enter the following information in one form or another:


	PLEASE NOTE: All file and directory names are case sensitive. The file and directory names listed in this guide are in lower case letters. Information on specific names is enclosed in quotation marks (" "). When using this information omit these marks.


	1. Host Server Name 2. User Name 3. Password 4. Remote Directory

Example of
FTP Configuration

1. Host Server Name
The Host Server Name will always be:
"users.utionline.net"

2. User Name
3. Password
The user name and password you will enter is the same
user name and password you enter to connect to University
Telcom's Internet Service.

4. Remote Directory
The Remote Directory is your web site location on the
Host Server.
This is the location where your web page files will actually be uploaded.
It will always be entered as: "/web".

Once connected to the Host Server "users.utionline.net" using
your FTP software, you will need to FTP all your web page files to this directory.

Remember, your primary home page file name must be named
"index.html." Some HTML editors omit the letter "l" when
creating this file. If your HTML editor does this you must add
the letter "l" to the file name so that your homepage can be
accessed properly.

Your web page address will be:
"http:// users.utionline.net/~pp(your user name)"
"http:// users.utionline.net/~ut(your user name)"

We recommend that our users keep a backup copy
of all the files you place on our server.
